Maybank Championship
The European Tour heads over to Malaysia for this week's installment, and coming directly after the middle east swing inevitably means it's a really weak field in attendance. Only Henrik Stenson, Bernd Wiesberger and Kiradech Aphibarnrat have entered from the top 50, so there is every chance of a lesser known name picking up some of the sizable prize money on offer.
Picking that winner is made harder by the fact that this course has only been used on the event once before, so there is limited course form, but at least those playing that year mostly return - all but one of last season's Top 10 finishers are back in action.
We're going to take a couple against the field here - starting with Chris Paisley who is enjoying some tremendous form. The desert swing has seem him bank back-to-back 5th places in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which followed up his win in the South African Open.
Those results have also seen him shoot up a couple of the most relevant stats tables for this tournament - which tends to reward players who can reach the greens efficiently, and then hole out quickly. He currently sits 16th on tour for Putts per Round, and 13th for Scrambling, which should give him a shot here. At 33/1 we should get a run for our money, and our bookie of choice here would be Stan James to get the 6 places at 1/5 odds.
Our other pucj is David Lipsky, who finished runner-up here in 2017, so will arrive in a confident mind set. The American was 6th last week in Dubai and is another to figure highly on the relevant stats tables, so should be suited to the course. He is 12th from Scrambles this season and 7th for Putts per Round. He'll need to ensure he hits enough greens in regulation, but at 55/1 with Bet365 there is enough in the price to forgive that and give him a go this week.
