We head to Southwell on Tuesday for the opening race (2:20pm), with Star Ascending bidding to complete a hattrick here. He's raised a few lbs for those wins, but should be able to take it in his stride comfortably. In fact, his last five starts here, all coming this season, have produced three wins and two runner-up finishes.
He is by far the most proven runner in the field, having won five times previously at this class and three times at the track. He's also won three times over the distance, and has a boat load of other place finishes to speak of (15 at this class, 9 at Southwell and 7 over this trip).
There are more than enough reasons to think he can turn it on again against modest opposition
