League One - Best Bets

This section looks an absolute minefield this weekend, and we've trawled it high and low looking to talk ourselves into and out of various bets. Shrewsbury appealed at Blackpool at nearly 3/1, but it's so hard to predict the starting XI for the Shrews as they rotate ahead of the play-offs.

Instead, we'll headline with Rochdale who have done a fabulous job lately to haul themselves out of what looked a hopeless position. They always had the games in hand, but things looked bleaked as their cup exploits finally came to an end with very few points in the league.

Since then however they have won five, drawn seven and lost just twice - hardly the results of a side destined for the drop. Put into perspective, if those sort of results had been achieved across the whole season, they'd have been on for somewhere around 72 pts - probably enough to make the play-offs!

So they travel to Oxford this weekend - a side with nothing to play for, and whom have lost 11 of their last 18 in all comps. It's hard to see how Karl Robinson gets his side going - they have won just twice in eight since he took the helm and he will surely be looking at next season now and beginning to evaluate his wider squad over the last couple of matches.

No prizes for guessing our second team for the week..... It's Plymouth who we are backing despite a few injury concerns. Ryan Taylor looks likely to return, but Lionel Ainsworth may well miss out after sustaining a hamstring injury in midweek. Moses Makasi and Paul Paton are both now out for the season. That might have been enough to knock them off the staking plan, but Paul Warne has hinted at resting a few players from his squad ahead of the play-offs and that could be enough to tip the scales in favour of the hosts.

Of course we know all about their home record, and extending that great form is crucial ahead of what looks likely to be a winner-takes-all crunch clash with Scunthorpe on Tuesday.
