Womens World Cup - Outright Fancy
We’re closing in on the end of the Group Stage now, and the bookmakers are perhaps napping a little bit when it comes to revising their outright books in our view.
The team in question are Germany, who have arguably not performed at quite the level we might have expected, but nevertheless are beginning to look like a cracking each-way bet as the last 16 places begin to fall into place.
As winners of Group B, Germany have secured their spot in the bottom half of the knock out draw. Immediately that ensures they wont face hosts France until the final. Notably however, it is also looking less and less like they will face USA or England earlier either.
USA have a +16 Goal Difference, so will finish top of Group F unless Spain beat them. I can’t see Sweden deliberately getting themselves into the top half of the draw, so that match might become a bit of a dead rubber with both sides through. The winner of that group goes into the top half of the draw.
Then we have England – ranked 3rd in the World. Phil Neville’s side have been slightly underwhelming so far, but have nevertheless won both their group matches so far and are 2/7 favourites to top Group D. That would see them into the top half as well, while Australia also look likely to finish in the top half.
Suddenly Germany are looking very happy with their bottom of the draw qualification. They may not have pulled out a 13-0 thrashing like the USA, but they are unbeaten and yet to concede a goal. They have beaten both Spain and China who are reasonable enough opponents and cruised through qualifying with a 38-3 goal difference over their eight matches. They looks great value at 7/1 as an each way prospect with several firms still going 1/2 place terms.
