Wimbledon - Gulbis v Mayer
When looking at tennis match ups, we always bang on about surface aptitude and preference. It's a cardinal sin to back players based on their ranking on another surface, and we're at risk of venturing into the naughty world in this one.

Leonardo Mayer is most definitely not a grass court player. He's played 475 of his 807 career matches on clay, and a further 238 on had courts. Nevertheless, he has a rare opportunity to reach the second round at Wimbledon - something he's only managed in two of his eight visits. He comes here straight from a rest after reaching the fourth round at the French Open.
He meets Ernests Gulbis - a man in serious trouble in 2019. So far he has won just five matches this season, and has now lost 15 of his last 16 matches - 12 of those in straight sets.
Over his career he's definitely the more suited to the courts in terms of his style, but he has achieved an underwhelming 50% win rate at SW19, and coupled with his form, he simply has to be opposed.
